Mencoret.com – A good friend of mine, while visiting my family, wanted us to cook something in the French style. I had never done anything like that before and was a little apprehensive about trying to pull off a rustic French kitchen, but my friend insisted that it would be fun and it would be great for her growing children. So, here I am, five months later, and I’m finally feeling right at home in the French Country kitchen. It’s very simple and easy, and I’m going to show you how I did it!
How to Decorate With a French Country Theme
First of all, I have to mention that my friend asked me not to use any hardware or appliances in the rustic French country theme. She told me that it was too much like mimicry and that she didn’t want to dilute the essence of what her family created together. So, to avoid having to fixate my thoughts on her choice of appliances, I decided to put them on hold.
We bought some beautiful French country mirrors and picked up an interesting wrought iron country French farmhouse table. My friend had told me that she wanted something to match the rustic French furniture that we were going to put into the rustic French country kitchen. So, I went online and looked at all the different tables and chairs that were available to me. When I came across the wrought iron table with the curved back that I loved so much, I knew that I had found my fixer upper. I couldn’t stop myself from buying this one, even though I had only seen it in the store.
The next thing that I needed was a way to actually hang things on this new furniture that I had bought. This was going to be the challenge. I couldn’t find any hooks that were big enough to do this. After searching for hours, I finally realized that the problem was with the way that I was hanging my items on the new furniture that I had purchased.
Use of Furniture and Arrange It
It turns out that this was not going to be a problem at all when it came to fixing up this French kitchen. Instead of spending hours trying to figure out how to hang the various items that I needed, I decided to buy some wooden wall brackets. These were perfect because they were not only stylish, but they were sturdy and would actually keep my hanging rods right where they should be. In fact, these wooden brackets would even work great when it came to attaching the kitchen island to the rest of the farmhouse.
Adding baskets to a French country kitchen is actually quite easy. All you have to do is pick up a decorative wicker basket from the hardware store and then wrap it up in some cellophane. The basket could be left plain or covered up with more baskets. I even decided to add a sun room mirror on top of the basket, since my sun room was already finished.
Perfecting the French Country Kitchen Style
The finishing touch to my French country kitchen style was the addition of some farmhouse chairs and an old fashioned iron table. Again, I did not spend a lot of money on these items, but they added a rustic charm to my kitchen. The seat and table were made from actual farmhouse chairs, and the iron table matched the perfectly painted walls. There was just something about the feel of being in a country kitchen that made me feel cozy and very comfortable.
When it came to decorating this little haven, the main thing that I wanted to keep in mind was the warmth and cozy feeling of a French style room. In order to achieve this look, however, I did have to make some sacrifices. I dropped the idea of a sunny window and instead chose to put in an indoor plant fountain. This did help to add a bit of color to the otherwise drab gray walls, but the plant fountain did take away from the overall feeling of comfort that I was striving for. In the end, I felt that I had accomplished what I set out to do and had created a charming area in which to spend time with my family.
